Christmas always has a way of turning even the simplest jobs into an adventure. This year, all I needed to do was a quick grocery run to grab a few last-minute bits and pieces for Christmas Eve lunch/dinner for the family. Nothing dramatic. Nothing complicated. Just a short drive to Aldi.
Naturally, I took the Porsche.
The shopping run itself was uneventful — however, when I pulled back into the apartment complex that’s when things took a very Porsche-shaped U-turn.
As I turned into the driveway, I suddenly felt something go crunch and the steering went a bit erratic, and my first thought was the kind you never want in an old Porsche: “That feels like suspension.” My heart sank. I slowed right down and crawled forward, managing to drive about 20 metres into my driveway all the while something very solid scraped, dragged and protested loudly beneath the car.
By the time I stopped, my imagination had already jumped to collapsed struts, broken arms, or something expensive and inconvenient.
Once safely parked, I jumped out for a look underneath and quickly discovered the culprit: the windscreen washer reservoir. The mounting bracket had broken, causing the reservoir to drop down and wedge itself under the car. As I’d driven those last few metres, it had been dragged along the ground, wearing a hole straight through it and leaving a trail of water behind me.
At least it wasn’t suspension.
Out came the jack, and after lifting the car up, I removed the offending plastic tank entirely. So for now, the Porsche is officially running without a windscreen washer reservoir. And honestly… who needs windscreen washers anyway?
The Porsche once again reminded me that even the shortest, simplest drive can turn into an adventure.
Merry Christmas Everyone 🎄
